Default Ultimimate GSAR Strap!

Having received my new GSAR, and not being particularly enthusiastic about the standard rubber strap, I decided to do a little research. Eventually I came across some images of the Ted Su Kevlar Dive Strap and kind of fell in love with the look. I knew the GSAR, with it's 20mm lugs, needed beefing up and this looked just the job but it was only produced in a 24mm version...I contacted Ted via email and asked him if he could adapt me a set of 20mm straps and he kindly agreed. A few days later a 24mm strap turned up by mistake but Ted apologized for the mistake and immediately shipped me the two adapted versions. Whilst waiting I had some serious doubts. I new I had taken a big risk (a $130 buck risk, to be precise) as I nowhere had I seen this strap used on a GSAR so I had no reference. Well, today the straps finally showed up and will some trepidation I cautiously fitted one to the GSAR. All I can say is, WOW! This has to be the perfect strap for the GSAR if you don't want to go with the bracelet. It beefs up the watch just enough and the huge industrial looking deployant buckle works perfectly with the thick bezel of the GSAR. I haven't had time to do any really nice shots and probably won't for a while if my wife has anything to do with it (and she does..:-)) but I rattled off a few shots that will give you a good idea. If you're looking for the perfect dive strap for the GSAR, as far as I can see, this is as close as damn it. Because Ted kindly sent me two straps, I intend to colour the thread on one of them black. I'll post some more pics once I've done that.

Default Like the strap, hate the buckle

Looks neither comfortable nor secure to my eye.

It's both, actually. How do you mean "secure"?

I've taken to pulling the buckles on my Zulus as close to the case as I can to get the buckles off the bottom of my wrist. I can't imagine having that big hunk of steel down there.

LOL! I know what you mean. I was worried about that, too. I've only worn it for a day so can't really talk from great experience but so far I haven't noticed it.

Nah, this is a real man's buckle!

No need for dive weights with sucker on, either!

That's my point. The buckle just looks like it would snag on everything and be prone to getting knocked open if the lever is struck. From a purely aesthetic standpoint it matches the GSAR well, but it seems a little short on practicality to my eye.

It doesn't seem to snag. I thought that might be an issue too but no probs so far. The buckle hasn't caught open yet either but even if I pop it open the strap does not begin to come open as it's quite a tight fit into the buckle. You need to actually pull it the straps apart to take it off.

Default Now That's a Buckle to be Reckoned With!

When I was 8 (1955), I got to fly to Germany in a DC-4 via Gatwick. I remember two things I really liked. First, being able to see the clouds from above and, second the cool belt buckle on the seat. It was easy to cinch, easy to open yet very secure. It was made out of aluminum and I thought it was well engineered at the time. This looks just like it LOL. Very retro. Thanks for the memory and best regards.

LOL! Well, I'm a pilot in my spare time. Perhaps that's why it appeals to me.
