Default WARNING: Divestraps.com - Duncan McMorrin

Just a quick warning to everyone, about Duncan McMorrin, also known as "outstretchedhands" of divestraps.com. I ordered a $145 strap for my Darth Tuna on October 14, 2009, and traded a couple friendly emails with him at that time.

I still haven't received the strap, and over the last several weeks he has failed to respond to probably 5 emails. An automated email response is received that he is moving and doesn't have access to email.

I know that he's been an active member on this forum and others, so I'm hoping he sees this. Duncan, it appears you've taken my money and run.

Default outstretchedhands

I am not very religious, but I found particularly unacceptable that he would have the name of a charity as nick, and the Christian fish symbol as an avatar.

There must be a way of putting handcuffs on his outstretchedhands!

Where did he come from? Are there local police that can be contacted by an MWR member liveing close to him?

cheers,

-John

Default Duncan lives in the UK doesn't he? Good luck with any type of LE >

response. My own experience is that there are so many scams out there of far greater magnitude that LE can't keep up with them or expend too much manpower on the small stuff.

There are really big fish to fry.....a few thousand dollars is child's play.

Default Jack: Are you saying that a good crack across the knees

with a bat would be a waste of time? Perhaps a "wood shampoo" by the Bobbies?

What a shame.

Sorry to hear.

I hope it works out for you.

All I can say is the people who run this great board run a great company as well.

They are very truth worthy.

If it's any consolation (it won't be) you can get a better (but similar looking) strap from Bob for ~$20, called the Maratac Elite (contains no kevlar)

I'd call your credit card company, and hear what they suggest, if I were you.

I ordered a leather strap for Duncan this past Fall. I'd read the whole "Kevlar" debate on all the watch forums but we'd PM-ed a few times in 2008 and he seemed like a good enough guy so I gave him the benefit of the doubt.... Well, after a month and a half of no leather strap showing up and no response to emails I filed a complaint with PayPal and got my money back. Hope you can get your money back too.

Default $6.5K calls for the deluxe thrashing

Bitch slaps are in the under $100 range, annoying but tolerable. I think that ANY crime is worth the effort to solve. The L.E. people are always copping out on small crimes. In Saudi Arabia they'd chop off the guy's hand for theft. One thing: if you are willing to solve the crime for them, the cops will do something. Otherwise it is much more profitable to force people to pull over, make them submit to an illegal search and then extort money from them because they've had an extra glass of Merlot.

He's in the UK, or was at least:
http://whois.domaintools.com/divestraps.com

For the record, I don't condone any sort of violence and would advise against posters joking about such, as there were previously allegations on other forums that Duncan "Outstretchedhands" McMorrin actually had made such threats. As much as this guy irks me, calling for physical violence against the man is over the line IMHO.

I'm afraid I can't get behind this. You'd be suprised the what L.E. has to go through in order to make a solid case. On top of that you add the bureaucratic crap that they have to put up with in their own agency and you might get a sense of what they have to put up with. I know of three Federal Agents that not long ago lost their lives in Afganistan along with U.S. soldiers, and they were not CIA. A hero is not just a sandwitch!

Default Don, I'm sorry but your argument doesn't get it

It's like a doctor refusing an operation because it's too much trouble. I have many L.E. friends, I know what a crappy job it can be. So is ditch digging. What I find is the L.E. is very willing to tell you what a fabulous job they're doing and will not tolerate any criticism toward them. Sorry about the Federal Agents, are they any more valuable than a soldier? Its OK for a Doggie to get it but a FEDERAL AGENT! God forbid.

My point was: locally, our police force and neighboring police are spending much of their time on revenue creating law enforcement. Catching a burglar doesn't make the city any money, he's broke, that's why he is stealing. But a drunk driver is a $7-10K economic jolt, as is a speeding ticket, parking ticket. Locally, the Petaluma PD is doing drunk stops frequently, impounding people's cars for no license, impaired driving etc. and then demanding half of the tow and storage fees. I'd like to have them spend more time patrolling, looking for burglars, robbers and vandals instead of looking for creative revenue sources.
They are in that business right? And it's a growth industry. I'm sure Jack would like to have someone nail the fool who stole his money so it won't happen again.
