    Default Sunnyvale MWR Meetů

The Sunnyvale CA meet was 15 years ago this month. I wonder if any of the MWRines in the images still drop in.

These were taken at the dinner afterward. I left in the afternoon same time as Bill. I had a two hours drive back up North. There were a lot of good watches there. My collection of Wylers, Type 1 and Super compressors were liked.

You me “The Bill”? The Bill who is solely responsible for the demise of the original “Unplugged”, the implosion of the Site that did not exist even if you thought that it did and the overall decline of the MWR? That Bill?

Bill Sone??? something like that? I claim no knowledge of this guy's alleged crimes. I met him once, at that occasion, we talked a bit about watches and left the bar at the same time. I did kiss his chubby cheek as I climbed into my new 2001 Passat turbo and roared off north. Is he an asshole or something? Apparently. Never saw or spoke to him again, your honor. Pat....remind me to never double cross you....OK?

Different Bill, I’m glad to know you don't run with antifa thugs. I remember Bill Sohne, he was an active and knowledgeable contributor. Sadly he has been MIA for several years.

Bill Sohne is a name I recognize as he's very active over on OmegaForums. If you wanted to get in touch you could easily reach him there.

I was there, among the crowd. Many people have moved on, so to speak. A Rolex 5517 back then went for around $15,000. I later spoke with Ned about plans to sell my watch collection to get one. I never did.

You'll notice my 'join date' is in 2007 - which is when i 'joined' the (then) new MWR forum. Before that, we had a different format, server, etc. It was primitive by modern 'chat room' standards, but it was great back then. We had long threads about military watches. That changed over time, and then eBay made prices of military time pieces skyrocket, and then fakes came on the scene, and we'd then chat about how to spot fakes ...

Anyone up for another MWR meet-up in Sunnyvale? I still live in the SF Bay Area (and I think many other members still do as well) and could set something up.

Stoddards is long gone though replaced by Firehouse Grill where we had a MWR mini-meet up back in 2006 when Bill Yao was visiting.

I tried to see if anyone was interested again a few years back, but got a very lukewarm response so I dropped the idea.

I'm in for Sunnyvale or elsewhere in the area.

One thought - Is Sunnyvale the most central for all the folks who might be attending ?

I'm in the wilderness that is the East Bay, so Sunnyvale is OK for me but if we have folks from the North Bay or Sacramento attending then it is a bit of a long drive for them

An East Bay or Peninsula location works for me, too. I just don't want to end up driving too far north, otherwise we'll have the opposite issue with driving distance.

Maybe we could add in a group tour of the USS Hornet and then have the GTG proper at some restaurant in Alameda?

Yeah, I was thinking Oakland area if we have people coming down from the north or Sac, so Alameda works too. If not then we can rethink.

The old base at Alameda is being reworked/gentrified so there are some restaurants, winerys, etc there as well as on the rest of Alameda island.

Works for me if Sunnyvale is too far for folks.
