    Default A little US history

The Republicans have all ways screwed veterans just like the hiring freeze to the VA right now. Here is the worst thing they ever did a good read weird how history repeats it self. When Hoover was President and this happened after WW1 during the great depression were they sent the US Army into a Hooverville out side Washington DC to evict the veterans protesters MacArthur in command of Troops and Patton in Command of 6 tanks to remove the vet from Washington DC all the Vets wanted was money owed them a little early just to feed there Families during the great depression the Republicans sent in the Army to attack there own. After Roosevelt became President instead of sending Troops with fixed bayonets on a second bonus Army protest he sent in his wife to talk to the vets who gave jobs with the CCC's and removed the clause none married to let vets who were married into the CCC's but Roosevelt was dick about the Bonus took the Democratic controlled Congress at the time to give them there bonus money early.

When FDR presented his "New Deal", a huge package of what was considered socialist programs at the time: Social Security, the CCC the WPA and the NRA, for the next 40 years most Republicans hated Roosevelt, wanted him thrown out and after the war, when I was a kid, there was huge support for MacArthur to run for president. Many old conservatives went to their graves hating FDR and loving MacArthur. The only way what's happening today is "History repeating itself" is that there are millions of whining spoiled brats throwing tantrums because Trump hasn't fixed everything in three weeks and he "Says bad things". Little else is the same. The world had never seen the likes of the great depression. What's happening today is just sedition, well organized and supported by a corrupt media.

I think he did social security to for retirement it's not going to help me since the city I worked for did not put into it. They did complain in the beginning now no one complaining about it now there just worried because the republican and maybe the democrats took money out of it to pay for other things so it mite not be there when they get old you just can't borrow from it and not put it back in. The recession under Bush did do some damage were some US auto Co almost went out of business people lost houses and some there jobs then in middle America it never recovered just along the east and west coast are doing some what good now and why Trump did better in middle America.

Did I say that I agreed with them? No. I think that what FDR was doing was trying to put this country back on its feet and the New Deal and WW2 did exactly that. Both of my grandfathers benefited from the Bonus Army. They were veterans of the Spanish American war and the Philippine Insurrection. My father's father was very well off having built up a huge life insurance business when that industry was first starting. He moved to Florida and was driven around in a Pierce Arrow limo. He owned a large number of apartments in Tampa and lost the whole thing in the great depression. All of my family were life long Democrats. We also have served America just like your dad. My relatives on the Hackett side, my mother's, fought in the Revolutionary war. My great grandfather Bruce was in the First Vermont Infantry and was wounded and pensioned off in the Civil War. My Great Great grandfather Jeremiah Hackett was a Major in the Union Cavalry. His son TP Hackett, my grandmother's father, was a US Deputy Marshall in the Indian Territory later to become Oklahoma. On my fathers side, my great Uncle Howard Burton went to Canada to become a pilot, and died flying a British Lancaster for the RCAF, shot down over Munich. Both of my uncles were in the USAAF in England and Belgium in WW2. My father joined the USMC when the war broke out but at the time he was working as an experimental mechanic at Lockheed and they simply told the Marines that he wasn't going anywhere. He was always angry that he had to build P38s instead of getting his head shot off in the Pacific. All of these people, my family and not a Republican in the bunch. I was the only one to see beyond the first row of trees and leave the hysteria and victim world of the Democrat party. I really think Charles Barkley said it best:
‘Black people have voted for Democrats their whole life, they’re still poor’ Democrats are always looking for someone to blame and they seem to overlook the guy who doubled the national debt in 8 years and created this snowflake mob who are pouting and screeching about losing an election because their candidate was a sad corrupt drunk. If the Clintons and the DNC hadn't torpedoed Bernie, they'd have won and put a genuine communist in the office. And you people blame Trump for this stuff? Putin? Give me a break.

And Dave I remember one thread were you are getting VA benefits most likely due to the GI bill that created the VA you can say thank you to FDR who did not want to see another bonus Army. It's different today but if it was not for the WW2 one we would not have the one we got today. I did use the GI bill once when I bought my first house did not use it in MT cheaper with out using it. The veterans points for jobs preference did help me once on getting a job so 70 years later it's still helping veterans. Dave I like the history of your Family

GOP blocks COLA on benefits for disabled veterans and survivors
    September 28, 2012
Despite what has traditionally been overwhelming support both in the past and unanimous support earlier this year in the U.S. House of Representatives, the Chairperson of the U.S. Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs announced on Thursday that at least one Republican Senator was holding up a bill which would provide a cost of living adjustment (COLA) on benefits for disabled veterans and the spouses and children of deceased veterans.
