    Default German gravity knife

Hello, I've been offered this German parachutist gravity knife. I been trying to find out if it was all original.
I would need to confirm if my conclusion is right. The kings nose the logo is to rounded and not pointy enough. The "G" should not have the little leg. I know there are fakes around. Please share you comments.

Ask for photos of the knife disassembled along with any other markings that are present on the blade, the bolster, the top of the housing, the inner blade guides, the locking lever, etc, etc.

Edit - That looks to be a Type I knife, so cannot easily be taken apart. Ask for more images of any additional markings that are visible on the blade, spike, lever, etc. A useful site for comparisons - http://www.wwiidaggers.com/LUFTGRAV.htm

Thanks for the site link IAP. I'll be seeing the seller next weekend at the flea market. I'll be on the lookout for the others markings.

Those if original are getting harder to find.

A bit I copied out of that informative link from above (http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=342930)

One of the easiest way to spot a fake gravity knife is when they are constructed with the copper rivets.
Original gravity knife didn't use copper rivets for their grips.
If you find a knife with this Makers mark SMF ? its a true fake IMO
Look at the nose of the king ! If you stydy the makers mark you will find some more
If the gravity knife you are considering purchasing sports a "Jimmy Durante" schnoz ...you should know that if you go for it, he's telling your going to get hosed.
Well I've got an SMF Knife ... and it's original

The one I'm going for has no copper rivets. As for the nose and other things on the logo, I can't make my mind up if its good or not. Especially if I compare it with supposed good ones.

I'll have to valid if it has the other markings before I make up my mind.
You have all been helpful, thanks.

If you have doubts, then it would be better to wait and look for an example that ticks more of the boxes.

I'm not sure it will scratch the itch, but there are more modern versions, search online for 'LL80', which were available a few years back on the surplus market for around the $50 mark.

Interesting book there papazulu, there is an English language equivalent.

If the other markings are there, I'll take the chance. He's asking $270 for it.

If it's authentic, it would be a steal....These are hard to get under 1000€....So, give that some thought

Go easy on it. Those springs are often broken on many of these knives.

IMHO if it is compared to the photos relating the fakes vs originals...its a clear fake...based on photos...and the price asked of cours...

    It's genuine
The fakes with the rounded noses have stamped logos not etched
    Etched rounded noses are fine
    Do a search on waf
