    Default Another one??

Who do you think you are, the Hunt Brothers of Depolliers? How many does this one make?

    Default No comment....

man cannot live on German chronographs alone. With Hurricane Dolly plowing through the state, I thought I had better get a water resistant watch...

Default Wow, that's a rare one!

    What's the diameter?

  5. #5

    Default Really nice watch...

Looks like a 3/0 size, 17-jewel movement from the late 1920s.

    What are the case materials?
    That dial looks fantastic.

    Default Diameter...

38mm without crown 42mm with crown. The case is metal, probably silveroid. What's nice about this one is that it has 90% of the original black enamel or lacqured painting on the case. The movement dates its to 1929. Here is a photo of the other one...

Default These Illinois watch movements are some of the finest

ever produced. Truly a miniature pocket watch. Collecting Illinois wristwatches is a whole different world. The other makers efforts pale by comparison.

Default They sure are! My early collecting days were focused------>

    mainly on American railroad pocketwatches.

My favorites being Illinois and Hamilton.

Finest movements made in USA, IMHO.

    Default I totally agree, Joel.

My early collecting days were mainly American wristwatches, and I also focused on Illinois and Hamilton. Of course, Hamilton bought Illinois in, I believe, 1926. I have an Illinois WW1 grill guard watch that's sterling silver, and unlike other grill guard watches, where the guard just snaps over the case, with the Illinois the guard is an integral part of the case, fitting flush and lined up by a pin on the face of the case. It has a horseshoe and "Good luck" engraved on the back. I'll try to post pics over the weekend if anyone is interested.

    Best...
    John

    Default Illinois Shrapnel Guard...John S

PLEASE post some photos...those are very cool watches. I had a chance to buy one years ago and passed...big mistake on my part. It sort of reminded of that Parisian proverb: "He who hesistates is sometimes saved." Joe A.

Default New Strap, Old Leather, Vintage Depollier - Part Trois

I received yesterday a strap I ordered from Jurgen, made from WWI vintage US Pistol holster leather, with tropic liner underneath. Thought I'd post it in light of the postings yesterday. Wore it on a trip today...

Default Depollier Elgin - Part Four

I was rumaging around my collection this past weekend and realized I had not posted this particular Depollier I have, with the original metal disc in the back, though its a bit worn. I'm not sure why, but I sure like these old military watches...Joe A.
