Default Finally picked out a 1911....

Decided to go with a Ruger SR1911 with a 4.25 barrel.

Being as I'm from New York there's still a little bit of paperwork before I can take it home, but the hard part is done.

Those are nice pistols. Well made, have all the bells and whistles right out of the box. Handy size too. Ruger is a great company as well. Funny, on Friday I bought my first pistol under the new regulations. It was a 20 year old S&W model 10 as a "Go ahead and steal it" house gun. I swear, in California they did everything except make you drop your pants. If I hadn't had my DD214 with me, I would have just said forget it. I would bet that these stupid permits and safety tests drive 40% of the sales right out the door.

You really have to be committed to buy a pistol in NYS also. Luckily both of the judges who write off the permits in Columbia County (where I live) are pro-carry. A few years ago one of the judges was anti-carry and would routinely deny permits, so it was 50/50.

Ruger does make a nice gun, I really like the Mini-14 I picked up not too long ago. Strangely/coincidently enough my father-in-law is going to give my wife (who also got her CC permit) a Ruger .357 (she'll load it with .38s).

Rugers for the whole family huh? You can't really go wrong there. They build things to LAST. My Mini 14 is from the eighties and it still shoots damn well and never fails to cycle even with cheapo russki ammo. It has the soda straw barrel, but I find the Accu-strut helps that problem. Rugers are great guns!
