    Why not just buy a used Glock 17 for a couple of hundred bucks and a bunch of cheep 9mm ammo and train away? When you got tired of it you would still have a real (but used) Glock worth a couple hundred bucks. Just saying...

    Because sometimes you want to train up with non-lethal props before a live-fire exercise, like a house clearing operation.

    Someone getting a laser dot on their chest is less painful than a 9mm slug.

    Years ago when combat style shooting was just getting going, There was an incident where the timer was standing directly across from some nervous nellie getting ready to draw and fire their first match. The Timer started the timer and Nellie drew his pistol and shot the timer squarely in the chest. Remarkably, the guy survived. After that the Timers were out of sight behind contestants. Thus inert training guns were born.
