    Default Can't PM

I registered and activated my account, but the ability to PM other members is missing after I log in. What am I doing wrong? TIA!

    Click onto Quick Links
    Scroll down and
    Click onto Edit Options
Make sure Enable Private Messaging box is ticked
Scroll down and then Save Changes.
    Good luck.

    Regards, dave

Thanks Dave, I tried that but there's nothing at all about Private Messaging anywhere on that page for me...under the Messaging section I only have the options to receive Admin emails and/or receive emails from other members.

It's definitely there... somewhere. Try schrolling down, also try clicking onto the various two arrows within a circle symbols.

Ar... well that would explain it.

Things must have changed since I joined in July because I could send PMs straight away then.

The email members option is always there however.

Wait a minute... it says here I can PM you now.
    Sending you a test PM.

    Regards, dave

    Thanks,

They won't see your email address; the message will be sent to your email through the forum software.

If you want people to see your address, you can include it within the text of your posts or include it in your signature, which is automatically included in your posts.

A few months ago, we had a malicious spammer attempt to send viral links via PM. The spammer registered and immediately started sending PMs to all registered users with his viral link. He was banned, but as a result, we have changed the forum admin rules to only allow PM capabilities after a period of time. Most spammers usually register and start immediately with their postings. The new rule alleviates this issue.

Usually just enough that we can ID you as either Hoo-man or Robot.

    Default Counters

How many posts do you have to make before your post count goes to more than zero? I have made 2 posts, started one thread & subscribed to another. All my stats are still at zero. Does the counter sub routine run as a batch process once a week? That would be vintage like some of the watches! Reminds me of the old days of punch cards back when I got my first Seiko.

Just wanted to make sure no one took my comment above too seriously.

I am sure more than a few members have had there run in with punch cards. Ever drop your card stack (uugghhhh), then have to resort it or your program would crash? Ahhh, the good ole' days, or not.

Hi Mark, and welcome to MWR.

Posts made in "The Post Exchange - PX" don't count towards your post tally, otherwise all posts count as you make them.

Your post count is now currently 2.

From memory, at around 30 posts you cease being a Junior Member, and become a Member. Above 999 posts you become a Senior Member, or an old fart like me!

    Best regards,

    Dave.
